A.C.: AFTER COLLAPSE® (sometimes referred to as A.C.) is a post-apocalyptic role-playing game set at least 50 years after worldwide civilization has come to a slow, bitter end.
Modern society had reached the point where most people wanted for little. Their wishes could be made real with the push of a button. Many diseases had been conquered. However, humanity’s reliance on technology set the stage for its eventual descent into chaos.
A.C. presents a detailed post-Collapse environment filled with opportunities for adventure and discovery. Characters, known as “Survivors,” cautiously comb through the dangerous ruins of once-great metropolises. Salvagers compete with profit-hungry scavengers to find valuable loot. Intelligent machines may match wits with Survivors or help them to reach their goals.
A.C.: AFTER COLLAPSE® uses a d20-based architecture. Features include:

No matter where you live or what you do, you’ll want certain supplies to help you get by. Whether it’s a backpack to carry your adventuring gear and the loot you find, items to fix your weapons and equipment, or tools to rebuild a community, the quality of your kit contributes to the success of your endeavors.

Everyone needs to eat. They also sometimes become ill or are injured. Whether food and beverages are prepared by people locally or fabricated items from before the Collapse, the calories gained by consuming them allow people to function for another day. Medicine, whether natural or technological, can make them more likely to recover from whatever ails them.
Salvagers and scavengers pride themselves on their ability to find food and medical supplies wherever they are. It doesn’t matter if what they locate, take, or purchase is basic or high-tech. Whatever it is aids them in living another day to achieve their goals.
A.C.: AFTER COLLAPSE® uses a d20-based architecture. Features include:
• craft-oriented Basic Skills that allow Survivors and NPCs to make
food and drugs to their own specifications;
• calorie values for a variety of manmade and fabricated foodstuffs;
• Drug Strength (DRG) values and described effects that reflect what
manmade or fabricated medications do for patients who take them;
• a system of Material Attributes (MATs) simulates the physical
properties of containers used to store food and drugs;
• Materiel Resistance factors (MARs) that define how much corrosion
or radiation containers resist in harsh environments; and
• a system of Structure Points (SPs) and Armor Points (APs) that
simulate the durability of food and drug containers when things go
wrong.

One question that explorers may want to answer is whether technology is all bad. Tales abound of rogue Artificial Intelligences (AIs) that thirst for mankind’s destruction in retaliation for past wrongs. Is any tech safe to use, or is Big Brother always watching, waiting for a chance to strike?

Whether a Survivor wants to defend himself from others or take what someone else has, weapons are useful tools to have. Not everyone has access to firearms or explosives, so they use what’s available. Low-tech weapons have their place. They can be used to inflict smaller amounts of damage to opponents, allowing them to be disabled or driven away instead of killed. Additionally, many types of low-tech weapons don’t need to be reloaded. The materials for those that do can often just be picked up off the ground.

Some of the tools that can help a salvagers, scavenger, soldiers, or ordinary people overcome the challenges they face come in the form of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Whether as body armor for combat situations, firefighting outfits, or filter masks for toxic environments, the right PPE can allow people to live through situations that might otherwise be seriously hazardous to their health.

Savvy explorers know that finding loot is only half the challenge. The other half is keeping it. Whether it’s to protect an enclave, hold on to what you’ve found or built, or taking things from someone else, the intimidation factor of small arms makes them some of the most desired weapons for the job.

Whether you’re protecting your home and family, exploring the ruins of civilization or simply travelling from place to place, it sometimes takes more than sheer will to succeed. Defending yourself from those who want your possessions - or your life - may require you to rely on something more than strong language. Before the chaos of the Collapse, both individuals and governments found that caseless firearms and ammunition were the best tools the task.
B.C.: BEFORE COLLAPSE® uses a d20-based architecture. Features include:
• a craft-oriented Basic Skill system that allows Characters to
make weapons and accessories to their own specifications;
• a system of modifiers that adjust Accuracy, Damage, and
Penetration to increase the lethality of precision-made
caseless firearms;
• a system of Material Attributes (MATs) that simulates the
physical properties of caseless firearms, ammunition, and
accessories;
• Materiel Resistance (MAR) factors that define how much
corrosion and radiation guns, ammo, and accessories can
resist under combat conditions;
• differentiation between High Velocity (HV) and Low Velocity
(LV) attack types, simulating the potential effectiveness of
caseless ammunition; and
• the use of Hard Points (HDPs) and Vigor Points (VGPs) to
simulate the toughness of Survivors and NPCs and their
ability to resist lethal and nonlethal damage.
The future is coming. Will you be ready for it?

D.C.: DURING COLLAPSE® AUGMENTATIONS AND MUTATIONS is a comprehensive encyclopedia of mutagenic science in the Collapse timeline. These tools made many of humanity’s most exceptional ecological and technological advances possible, both before the Collapse and during the decades of decline that ended in the loss of worldwide civilization.
This volume includes:
• A history and description of programmable mutagens that were
used to genetically edit Earth’s population and ecosystems. Game
mechanics include the definitions of random mutagens used as
terror weapons by both human and technological villains.
• Detailed definitions of the different types of radiation that can
affect Survivors and the world in which they live – Debilitating
Radiation (DRAD), Hard Radiation (HRAD), Lethal Radiation
(LRAD), and Mutagenic Radiation (MRAD).
• Scalable Threat Levels that referees can assign to bacterial, viral,
and radiological mutagens, allowing them to present an aura of
mysterious danger or science gone bad in scenarios and campaigns
they create.
• Players have access to Basic/Advanced Skills that give their
Survivors a chance to save lives or unleash new horrors.

A.C.: AFTER COLLAPSE® (sometimes briefly referred to as A.C.) is a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) set in a post-apocalyptic future. The Origin of A.C.: AFTER COLLAPSE® combines a broad overview of our development process with thoughts on things to consider when creating your own game.
A.C. came to be after over three decades of thought, discussion, and reworking. Though team members came and went, the overall goal remained the same—to design a post-apocalyptic TTRPG system that provided players and referees with the tools to build their own post-Collapse environment, envision who and what could be found in it, and simulate the results of the interactions between these elements.
Every game system is different. The individual members of a development team each bring their own unique combination of imagination, insights, skills, talents, and personality to the table. While the way we functioned may not work for you, this volume may give you some ideas on how to move your dream from a concept to a playable reality.
